Nephew's school moves class 6 to tablets in June. What does an ordinary day with one look like?

My nephew lives with us during the school year and starts class 6 in June. The circular says textbooks will be 'supplemented by a tablet programme' and names the device to buy. The presentation at the parents' meeting was very polished. From parents whose children already use one: how many hours a day is it actually on, what comes home on it, and who manages it in the evenings? I teach, and I know how far apart the brochure and the classroom can be.

Our son's school started this in class 4. In practice it's used for maybe two periods a day, mostly worksheets and videos. Homework comes on it about half the time, which means the tablet is out every evening and the arguments are about whether he's doing homework or something else. We keep it on the dining table after 7. The school's settings block most things, not all.
