Nephew asked me to sign his diary and not tell his parents about the teacher's note

During the week my nephew lives with us, and I'm the one who signs his school diary. Yesterday there was a note from his class teacher about two incomplete assignments. He asked me to sign it and not mention it to his parents when they call. He was quite upset. I signed it, because the teacher needs a signature. I haven't decided about his parents. They are the ones responsible for school decisions, but I don't want him to stop showing me the diary. What would you do in my place?

We've had a lot of diary notes in our house this past year, so I have opinions. I'd tell him you'll tell his parents together, with him on the call, and he gets to explain first. He keeps trusting you because you didn't go behind his back, and his parents still hear it. Two incomplete assignments is small. What matters more is that he's this scared of their reaction.

My worry would be the next note. If this one stays quiet, it gets harder to explain later why you didn't mention the first. He's the same age as my son. They usually take it better than we expect when we stay calm.

Paapam, chinna pillodu. He is just scared. Parents must know, but you tell them softly first, not in front of him. In our family my brother's son stayed with us one year and same thing happened. Better the parents hear from you than from the teacher at PTM.
