neighbour in our block asks for my 10 yr old's marks every time we're in the lift

amber_lantern_6731

class 5 results came out in april. since then the aunty on the 4th floor has asked me three times what she got, and once asked my daughter directly while I was standing right there. her grandson is in the same class, other section my daughter did fine. not the point. I don't want marks to be lift conversation and I don't want to be rude to someone we'll see every day for years. what do you say 🤷

IB reports have no marks, so I get away with 'they don't give marks'. For you maybe 'she did well, we're happy', then ask about the grandson. People mostly want to talk about their own.

'she did well aunty' on repeat. by the third time they stop. worked on my mother in law for 4 yrs 😄

I used to give the numbers just to end the conversation. Then my daughter overheard me telling a neighbour her maths mark and was upset for a week, and she was right to be. Since then I only say how she did if she's said I can. It does make a few conversations awkward, and I haven't found a way round that part.
