Nanny gives our 2 year old a biscuit for every finished meal. Now she bargains

citrus_pebble_6941

It started with good intentions. Our nanny found that a biscuit after lunch got the plate finished, and for a while it worked. Now every meal opens with 'biscuit?' before the first spoon, and on weekends with us she negotiates like a trader. Two spoons, one biscuit. We have no family here, so the nanny is with her most of the day and I don't want to undermine her. How did you change something like this without it becoming about who's right?

We had a version of this with chocolate at my mother's place. What worked was keeping the treat but moving it, so it came with the evening milk instead of after the meal. Same biscuit, no deal attached. Took about a week of protests. The nanny may even be relieved to have a simpler rule ❤

ours did this with stickers, not food. she still counts things in stickers at 5. the bargaining didn't really go away, it just found something else to attach to

How did you bring it up with the nanny? Ours does small things differently from how we would, and I never know whether to raise it or let it go.

Haven't yet, that's partly why I posted. I'm thinking of putting it as a new plan for all of us, weekends included, rather than something she got wrong. Will see how it lands.
