Moving from CBSE class 10 to the IB Diploma at Silver Oaks Bowrampet for class 11

pebble_quilt_6246

Our daughter goes into class 10 (CBSE) in June. She has been talking about the IB Diploma for 11 and 12, mainly because she wants fewer exams and more writing. Silver Oaks in Bowrampet runs both CBSE and IB, which is why it's on the list. It's a long way from Rajendranagar, so we'd need to be sure. For anyone whose child moved from CBSE to IB at class 11: how rough was the first term? And does a CBSE class 10 year leave them ready, or is there a gap we should start filling now?

ours are in IB primary, so not the diploma. but from talking to older parents at school: the writing is the shock, not the subjects. kids who read a lot cope. kids trained for one-word answers struggle for a term

I work in academic coordination at an international school (not this one), so I see a few CBSE joiners into the Diploma every year. What I notice is that the content is manageable; the change is in how they are assessed. Essays, internal assessments, deadlines spread over two years instead of one big exam. The children who settle fastest are the ones who already manage their own time. If you want to prepare during class 10, that's what I would work on, not extra syllabus.

A colleague's daughter made exactly this switch two years ago. She said the first term was hard mainly because of Theory of Knowledge, which was unlike anything she had done before. By the second term she preferred it. In the end the drive was the bigger issue for them.

The drive deserves weight. Two years of long commutes in 11 and 12 is a real cost, whatever the curriculum. Did your colleague's daughter manage to make the travel time useful, or was it just lost?
