Moving a state board child into class 8 at Edify World School, Attapur. What changes?

moss_compass_3523

We live in Bandlaguda Jagir and Edify is one of the closer options. My elder daughter is in class 7 on the state board this year, and we're considering a move for class 8 next June. The brochure says 'global curriculum' and 'holistic'. That tells me nothing. I want to know what a state board child finds different in class 8: which subjects, how answers are expected to be written, how much English reading, whether there's an entry test. And whether CBSE or IGCSE is the realistic route for a joiner at that stage. Parents who have made a similar move, here or elsewhere: specifics, please.

I can only speak generally, not about this school. Before subjects, ask how they assess a class 8 joiner and what support they give in the first term. A school with a clear answer to 'what happens if she struggles in October' has usually thought about joiners. One that says 'children adjust' probably has not.

We considered Edify for our elder one's class 1 and dropped it because of the distance from Madhapur, so I have nothing first-hand on the middle school. One thing I'd add to your list is the second language. A state board child's Telugu may not line up with what is offered from class 8, so check which languages they run and at what level. Does your daughter have a preference between Hindi and Telugu?

When my daughter changed boards in class 9, the subject names were the same and the content overlapped more than we expected. What changed was the way answers had to be written: longer, more reasoning, less reproduction. Ask the school for a sample class 8 science and English paper. It will tell you more than the brochure.
