Is the 'teacher said no homework' phase normal in class 2?

Three times this week he's come home and said 'no homework today, teacher said'. Then I open the diary. Homework. He's not a big fibber otherwise. Is this a phase, or do I make it a bigger deal than just checking the diary myself every day?

Both my boys did the 'teacher said no homework' thing around that age, the younger one with a very straight face 🙂 What worked for us was boring. Checking the diary became his job: he had to bring it to me and open it himself. If he 'forgot', homework happened before any TV. There was nothing to gain any more, so he stopped trying within a few weeks. My amma still teases him about it.

Him opening the diary himself, I like that. Tried it tonight. He opened it, read it, and said 'oh, THIS homework'. We'll see how long that lasts.
