IB grade 2 marks her stories for ideas, not spelling. Her spelling is wild. Correct it at home?

Wrote 'becos' and 'frend' in a story the teacher loved. Teacher says they don't correct spelling in journals at this age, focus is on getting ideas down. I test software for a living, every typo hurts 😅 Fix at home or leave it?

I work in an international school, so I hear this one a lot 🤷‍♀️ Most PYP classrooms keep the writing journal separate from spelling work, which should still be happening somewhere else in the week. Ask the teacher where spelling is taught, not whether. If she has a word list, help with that and leave the stories alone.

Our older one is in the same grade with the same approach, and I am not fully convinced either. What I do is leave her stories unmarked but keep a short list of words she gets wrong repeatedly, and we go through five of them at the weekend. Whether it works, ask me in a year.
