how much change is normal for a small child at school

my son is settling into a new classroom routine and the updates have been brief. he comes home fine some days and unusually quiet on others. i want to ask what changed without sounding as if i am accusing anyone. what information would be reasonable to request?

Maybe ask for a rundown of a typical day now, rather than asking why he seems quiet. It keeps the conversation concrete.
