A model volcano sat on the dining table for four nights because its creator said moving it would disturb the experiment. We ate dinner around a cardboard mountain. When the project finally left, everybody instinctively kept their plates on one side.
Our projects also become semi-permanent furniture. A portable base can protect the work while allowing everybody to eat properly.
The mountain probably deserved its own dinner invitation after four days.
It was definitely the most important member of the household this week.
I would have named the volcano and charged it rent by night three.
The volcano is now asking for an extension on its lease of the dining table.
