How do you stop tuition with a retired teacher who is practically family?

Two years of maths tuition with a close family friend, a retired teacher who has known her since she was small. Class 10 boards are done and the results were good. For ISC she wants to change to a group class with her friends, or try on her own for a while. The problem is not her, it's us. He has already said 'see you in June beta' and Ba says he'll be hurt, and that we'll see him at every function for the rest of our lives. Has anyone stopped a tuition with someone who's practically family? How did you say it?

We had to do this with a music teacher who was also our neighbour. What worked was telling him ourselves, in person, before he heard it from anyone else, and thanking him properly for what he had done for her. We did not give a long explanation. Would your daughter want to tell him herself, with you there? At her age that may mean more to him than hearing it from you.

Hadn't thought of her telling him herself. She'd probably do it better than me, she's less awkward with him than I am 🙂 We'll go together, with a box of sweets for her results. Ba will still think I'm wrong, but that part I can live with.
