His bus day runs 6 am to 5 pm. Move him closer or leave him with his friends?

son 12, class 7. current school is 50 mins each way on the bus. there's a decent cbse school 10 mins from our house and admissions for next year are opening now. our 5 yr old would start class 1 there too, so both kids in one place he's been at his current school since lkg and all his friends are there. says he'll be fine with the bus. i think the bus is draining him more than he admits how did others weigh this. convenience is obvious but i don't want to underestimate the friends part

What does "draining him" look like? Sleeping on the bus, marks, mood? If it's mood and he says he's fine, I'd believe him over the commute. At 12, friends matter more than 100 minutes a day. If it's sleep or marks, different conversation.

  mostly sleep. after that bus day it's homework till 9, so maybe 8 hours on a good night. marks fine for now, mood fine on weekends. so maybe the problem is the sleep and not the school. need to look at it again with my partner before the forms close
