Her friends get her live location all day. We don't. She's 16

She switched off location sharing with me last month. Said she doesn't need to be 'tracked'. Found out yesterday the whole friend group shares live location with each other, all the time. I work in security, so I have opinions about where this data goes. That's not even the hurt part. Do I ask her to put us back on, or let it go?

my son is 10, so this is ahead of us. but i remember wanting my friends to know where i was and my parents not to. same feeling, different technology. maybe it isn't about you at all

I think it helps to separate the two concerns you mention. If the issue is safety, a specific arrangement may be easier to agree on, such as sharing location only during travel or late evenings. If the issue is that she shares with friends and not with you, that's a conversation about trust, and it is probably better had without the phone in the middle of it. My daughter is twelve, so I am not speaking from experience of this exact situation.

What is the actual risk you want covered? Late nights, travel, new places? Name it, and ask for location for that. 'Put us back on' with no reason sounds like tracking, which is exactly what she said.
