Her friend left the dance class they joined together, and now my 9 year old wants to stop too

My daughter and her closest friend joined a Bharatanatyam class together in June. Last week the friend's family pulled her out because of timings. My daughter went once on her own, came back quiet, and now says she doesn't want to continue. The tricky part is that I can't tell if she's lost interest in dance or just doesn't want to go without her friend. Before the friend left she was practising at home without being asked. Her teacher thinks she has a feel for it. My instinct is to ask her to finish the term and decide in December. My partner thinks forcing it will put her off dance for good. Both seem reasonable to me, which is why we haven't decided anything.
