He'll only walk if I hold one finger, so I spend every evening bent double doing laps of the flat

My back can't do this much longer. Our son is a little over one and walks well as long as he's holding my index finger. Let go and he sits down immediately, every single time. So every evening after daycare it's round and round the flat with me bent over. Daycare says he takes a few steps there holding the furniture. Push toy? Just wait it out? What helped yours let go ❤️

  • Typing this one-handed with a 4 month old asleep on me, and my back already hurts in sympathy. No advice, only respect 😄

Enjoy the sitting-down phase while it lasts. Our younger one did the one-finger walk for about three weeks. Then one day she let go to pick up a shoe and walked off with it as if she'd always known how.

Our daughter isn't walking yet, so I'm reading for later. One thing her daycare uses with the older babies is a low, weighted push cart they can lean on. The teachers say the ones who walk only with a hand let go sooner on the cart, because they're steering it themselves. Does your daycare have one you could watch him with, before buying?

Our elder one did this. We switched from my finger to her holding a small toy in each hand, a block or a ring, while I walked next to her. She seemed to think she was still holding on to something. A couple of weeks later she was walking with a block and without me.
