He wants privacy and his younger brother is always listening

My older son is less willing to talk when his small brother keeps appearing in the room. We do not have endless private space at home. I want to create ordinary moments to check in without calling him into a formal discussion. What has worked in busy homes?

A short walk after dinner helped us. Nobody had to announce it was a serious talk.

We sometimes use the drive back from an activity. The conversation happens sideways.
