He refuses to sit in the stroller and insists on pushing it. 300 metres takes an hour

Our son has decided the stroller is for pushing, not sitting in. He steers it into every gate and parked bike, and if I take the handle he sits down on the road. Lovely in theory. In practice we're back past his dinner time, and I have an early theatre list most mornings. Did you just give in to the slow walks, leave the stroller at home, or find some middle way?

Ayyo, the pushing phase. My elder one did this with the trolley at the supermarket and we spent whole Saturdays in the rice aisle. We started leaving the stroller at home and giving him one 'important' thing to carry, a ball or his water bottle. Walks got faster because he had a job.

Carrying something important might work, he loves being handed things. Trying his little steel tumbler this evening.

Ours does this too! We gave up and bought a cheap toy pram for him to push while one of us carries the real stroller folded 😂 Looks ridiculous, works most days.

We did the toy pram version too, years ago. The only thing I'd add is to keep the route the same for a while. Ours went much faster once he knew where the turnaround point was.

At that age I stopped treating it as a walk to somewhere and budgeted an hour for the walk itself. Early theatre days are a different matter though. Maybe slow walks on weekends, and a quick carried one on list days? ❤️
