Half the apartment has signed their 5 year olds up for a 'class 1 readiness' maths course. Needed?

Our son finishes UKG this month. In our apartment group at least eight parents have signed up for a six-week summer course that promises class 1 readiness in maths. Worksheets, timed drills, a test at the end. He counts fine, adds small numbers on his fingers, and loves weighing things on the kitchen scale with his amma. He's happy. I'm not against learning, I just don't see what six weeks of drills give a five year old that counting at home doesn't. But I also don't want him walking into class 1 in June feeling behind the other boys from our block. Did anyone skip these courses, and did it matter? 🙂
