he brings a pillow, pats my shoulder and hums something that might be a film song. if i open my eyes he says 'thatha, close'. once i pretend to sleep he goes off and plays with my reading glasses. three days running now. i have started looking forward to it

This is lovely. Our daughter is still at the stage where we do the patting and the humming, so it is nice to know it comes back around eventually.

Our son did the same with my father at about that age. Four years on, my father still asks for it when he visits. I am not sure the boy remembers, but my father certainly does.

Enjoy every one of these. Our daughter used to do this to her ajoba with a bedsheet and a story she made up as she went along. She's finishing college now, and he still tells it at every family function.

he tells me stories also. mostly about a lion who goes to school. the lion is always in trouble with the teacher
