he's with us most afternoons now. my son leaves at 8 and is home after 9 most days, daughter-in-law a little earlier. around 7 the boy starts. 'thatha, nanna eppudu vastaru' every ten minutes. i say soon. it's never soon. my son says don't make promises for him. so what do i say

give him a marker he can see. 'after your bath and two stories' works better than 'soon' because he can watch it get closer. and if your son is later than that, it's your son's phone call to make, not your explanation

I'm on the other side of this: the parent who gets home late two days a week. What helped us was a two-minute video call at 7, every day, even if I'm still on the bus. Our son stopped asking 'when' once he knew the call was coming. Maybe your son could do something like that? Small thing, but the kanna stops watching the door 🙂

Seconding the fixed call. We did it at 7.30 when my partner was travelling. The trick was keeping it at the same time every day, even on days my partner could have come home early.

told my son about the call this morning. he said he's in meetings at 7. i said then make it 6.45. he agreed. we'll see
