it's walking distance for us and icse right through, so in theory one school decision for 15 years. our son isn't 2 yet. but i'd like to hear from people who started there in nursery. did you stay the whole way or move at some point, and why

What decision are you making now? He isn't two. Most families I know who planned fifteen years ahead changed course by class 5 for reasons they couldn't have predicted: a job move, a child who wanted something else, a sibling. Look at the nursery and primary years properly and leave the rest.

I partly agree. The one thing worth checking early is how a school handles the move into the senior classes, because that is where families tend to leave if they are going to: subject choices, which streams are offered after 10. You don't need to decide anything now, but if the nursery choice is close between two schools, it's a fair tie-breaker.

Walking distance is the part I'd hold on to. In nursery and the early primary years, an ordinary weekday with a five-minute walk is a very different day from one with a 40-minute van ride. I'd ask current nursery parents about the daily routine: how long the day is, what drop-off looks like, how they handle a child who cries for the first month. The fifteen-year question can wait.
