forwarded my son a job opening from my network. he asked me not to do that again

it was a good role at a company i know well. i didn't call anyone or put in a word, just sent it to him with 'saw this, might interest you'. he replied an hour later, very politely, that he'd rather find things on his own and could i please not send any more. i think he's worried people will assume he got in through me. i'd probably have felt the same at 21, so i'm not upset with him. just surprised at how much it stung. not sure what i'm asking. maybe whether others found the line with their kids in final year.
