First time through DOST for degree admissions. How did the phases and web options work for you?

peach_violin_8542

Our daughter finished intermediate this year and wants a BSc at a college in the city. Registration for the online degree admissions is open, and the instructions are clear enough until web options, phases, online self-reporting and then reporting at the college, which seem to be separate steps with separate deadlines. For those who went through it last year or earlier: did a later phase ever improve on a seat already accepted, and was there anything at the college reporting stage that caught you out? I am interested in what actually happened rather than what the guidelines say should happen.

Not for my own child yet, but every year I help a few older sisters of my students fill the form at the internet centre. The biggest mistake I see is listing too few colleges, and then nothing comes in the first phase. Also keep many photocopies of every certificate, and the income certificate ready if she is applying for a scholarship.

list more options than feels necessary. and put the self-reporting deadline on the calendar. a few of our old students lost seats by missing that one step

We are about to start the engineering version of this with our son, so I'm reading every reply. A friend told me a later phase can move you up only if the earlier seat was confirmed properly. Worth checking that rule before you begin ❤️

I'm on the university side and meet these students in their first week. Two practical points. First, the exact combination matters more than the college name: check that the BSc combination she wants runs at each college on her list. Second, colleges differ in how fast they verify certificates at reporting, so go early in the reporting window with originals and a full set of copies.

Thank you, this was the most useful reply. We checked combinations as you suggested and removed two colleges that don't offer her subjects together. Registration is done; options next week.
