Finger-food dinners for a 2 year old who insists on feeding himself, slowly

linen_compass_955

Since about April he refuses the spoon if anyone else is holding it. Fair enough. The problem is that dinner now takes an hour, half of it lands on the floor, and on demo days I get home at 8.30 and just want him fed. What do you make that he can pick up on his own and that fills him up? Rice and dal by hand is a disaster at the moment.

Dosa strips and idli quarters with a thick sambar for dipping were our standbys. Also paneer cubes, small parathas rolled up with something inside, and rice pressed into little balls with the dal and ghee already mixed in before it reaches him. The hour-long dinner doesn't really go away. I've just stopped watching the clock 😂

rice balls worked with my younger one too. also small spinach vadas. he ate more because he thought it was a snack

Spinach vadas are a good idea. My mother makes a palak version, I'll ask her for a batch before I travel on Thursday.

rava upma spread in a plate and cut into squares once it sets. sounds strange, works. mine ate that most nights for months at that age. also a towel under the high chair saved our floor and my temper
