Final-year daughter has a startup offer that wants her full time from next month. She still has two semesters left

Our daughter is in her final year of BBA. A small startup she interned with over the summer wants her back full time from September, paid properly, and says she can manage college on the side and come in for exams. She is thrilled. I work in a school, so my first thought was attendance, and my second was what happens if this company folds in six months and she has a shaky final year to show for it. She hasn't asked her college yet. Has anyone's child worked full time through the last year of a degree? Did the college allow it, and did the degree suffer?

from the work side i see this a lot with small companies. 'manage college on the side' usually means 10 hour days once there's a deadline and nobody remembers exam week until it arrives not saying she shouldn't. but get the exam leave and the hours in writing before she starts, and ask the college first, not after. some colleges are strict about final year attendance even for students who are placed

Still up thinking about it, so thank you. The writing part is fair. Right now the offer is one WhatsApp message and a phone call. I'll ask her to get a proper letter that mentions exam leave 🙂

I run a small business and we once took a final-year student full time on terms like these. The work was good. The trouble came in exam months, when she needed two weeks off at short notice and nobody could cover, and it soured things on both sides. If the startup is small, ask them who does her work during exams. If they have no answer, that is worth noticing. Also ask your daughter what is left in the last two semesters. A final-year project with a guide who expects weekly meetings is very hard to fit around a full-time job.

Update. She went to the college yesterday. No attendance exceptions for jobs in the final year, but they allow an internship semester in the last term if the company gives a letter. So what she's putting to the startup is three days a week now and full time from January. They haven't replied yet. Thank you both, the exam-month question was the one she hadn't thought about.
