Elder son reports nothing about school. His younger brother reports everything, including the elder's day

The 12 year old says 'fine' and 'nothing' every evening. The 9 year old gives a full bulletin at pickup: his own class, the lunch queue, and what happened to his brother at the water cooler. Useful, I'll admit. But the elder one has started getting angry with him for 'reporting'. Do I stop the little one, or is this just brothers?

Haha, this was me and my brother, except I was the reporter. He's four years older, and I told our mother everything, including things he hadn't done. He barely spoke to me for most of class 8. I have only a toddler so no parent wisdom yet, but from the sister side, a rule like 'only tell your own news' would have saved us a lot of fights.

'Only your own news' is simple enough that a 9 year old might follow it. Trying it tonight.

We have just the one, so the bulletin is about his teacher instead. I now know what Miss had for lunch every day this week 🙂 I wonder if the elder one would talk more alone with you in the car, without the reporter in the back seat?

Possible. I pick them up together, so there's never a time with just him. Might have to invent an errand.
