Driving past Alexander International School in Tolichowki, my son asked if it was 'in another country'

I had a consult in Tolichowki on Saturday and took my son along. We passed Alexander International School and he asked, quite seriously, whether the children there go abroad. When I said it's a state board school, he wanted to know why it's called international then. I didn't have a good answer. Lots of schools in the city use the word. When you see 'International' in the name of a state board or CBSE school, what do you take it to mean, if anything? I'm curious how other parents read these names, not looking to judge the school itself.

it's mostly a name. half the schools on my route to work are international something. i'd go by what you see on a visit

Mehdipatnam here, so that whole stretch is familiar. School names tell you what parents wanted to hear when the school was set up. If you ever visit any of them, ask what they mean by it. Some have a real answer, like an exchange programme or a particular curriculum add-on. Some just smile.

my daughter's school is IB and the name says 'public school' 😂 names mean nothing

That's fair. I asked my son at dinner what he thinks it means. His answer: 'they speak English and there's a swimming pool'. Which is probably what half the names are counting on.
