Daughter's IT joining date has been pushed back twice since her May offer

willow_compass_2269

Our daughter finished her degree in May with an offer from a large IT company, joining date early July. In June they wrote to say August. Last week another mail: 'onboarding schedule will be communicated'. No date at all. She's at home, applying elsewhere half-heartedly because she doesn't want to look disloyal, and spending a lot of the day on her phone. I can't decide whether to push her towards other interviews or a short course, or let her rest while it lasts. If your son or daughter went through one of these delayed joinings, how long did it drag on, and did the offer hold?

It's common right now with the big services firms. Offers usually hold, but nobody can promise a date. I'd tell her that interviewing elsewhere isn't disloyal; the company isn't paying her while she waits. A short certification in whatever they hired her for won't hurt either.

Interviewing, yes. I'd skip the certificate unless she can say what she'd use it for. Ask her what she wants the next two months to look like. If the answer is nothing, that's worth hearing too.
