Class 7 science is mostly copying notes off the board. I review lessons for a living. Say something or not?

Two weeks into the new year and my son's science notebook is already half full. Neat, dated, and copied word for word from the board. When I asked what they did in the lab period, he said they copied the procedure. The trouble is that I'm an academic coordinator. I sit in on other teachers' lessons and write feedback for a living. I know exactly how it would sound if I went in, however politely, and I know my son would hate it. His school isn't mine, and it's one teacher in one subject. Can a parent raise this without it turning into a lesson observation? Or do I leave it and do the 'why' at home?

What does he think of it? Some children quite like a lesson where nothing unexpected happens.

That's the thing. He says it's the most relaxing period of the day. No questions, no group work, just writing.

      Replying to @jade_compass_1184

then maybe leave it this term. relaxing isn't the worst thing at 12. he'll tell you when he's bored, they always do

I help my grandson with homework three afternoons a week, and I've learnt this much: a parent gets about one complaint a term that the school really listens to. Save it for something that's hurting him. Copying from the board isn't hurting him. Doing the 'why' at home over dinner sounds like more fun anyway 😄
