Class 6 brought in houses this year, and she's in a different one from her best friend

Our daughter's school started a house system from class 6 this year. Four colours, house captains, points for everything. She and her best friend were put in different houses and she came home in tears, as if they had been sent to different schools. They're still in the same section and sit together. I've told her that, gently, more than once. It doesn't seem to be landing. How did your children take it when houses split up friends?

Arre, same drama in our house! My daughter's school started houses this year and her best friend is yellow, she is blue. Sports day practice is apparently a betrayal 🙂 We're only a week in. They still eat lunch together, so I'm hoping it calms down before sports day itself.

Different houses means competing at sports day, not that they can't be friends. If they're in the same section and still sitting together, I would let it run its course. Did the school say anything about sections changing later?

Is it the house she's upset about, or the friend? If she's afraid the friend will drift, reminding her they sit together won't fix anything.
