Class 2 field trip on a weekday, and he wants me there, not his father

violet_trail_4072

Son's class is going to a farm outside the city next Friday and the school wants two parent volunteers. He came home and announced it has to be Amma. His Nanna is home on a career break this year and has already offered, but apparently that doesn't count. Friday is my heaviest teaching day. I could swap one lecture, maybe. I don't want to start rearranging classes for every school event, but I also know he won't ask forever. What did you do when it was you they wanted?

Mine is in her first year of college now. I asked her recently which school trips she remembered me missing, and she couldn't name a single one. She does remember the one I went on in class 3, mainly because I got the group lost looking for the bus. If it's one lecture, I'd swap it. If it becomes every event, that's a separate conversation.

Similar setup here, partner's home and our 4 yr old still wants me for anything with an audience. I've started picking one event a term and saying a proper yes to that. The rest go to him.

One a term is a good rule. Part of me also wonders whether going this time just teaches him that asking for Amma works and Nanna is the backup.

That is reassuring and a little heartbreaking at the same time. Did you go the next time as well? Mine is still a baby, so I am only taking notes for later.

I went for my son's class 3 zoo trip. Whole day he only gave me his water bottle and bag to hold. Now he is in 10th and still he tells that story to his cousins. So go when you can, no need every time.
