Class 11 result came today. Does a weak chemistry mark matter anywhere, or only to us?

My elder son's class 11 finals are back. Physics and maths are fine, computer science is good, chemistry is 58. He isn't surprised and neither am I. He has been fighting organic chemistry since November. Before I start a conversation I might regret, I'd like to understand whether the class 11 mark itself goes anywhere. College applications, universities abroad, anything? Or is it only class 12 and entrance scores that count, and this is simply a signal for us to deal with?
