Class 10 daughter wants to drop volleyball till the boards. I'd like her to keep two evenings

gentle_moon_7335

She has played volleyball four evenings a week since class 7, at the court near our colony. Now she wants to stop completely until March and use the time to study. I understand the worry, but my sense is that those two hours on court are what keep her steady. I've suggested two evenings instead of four. She thinks I'm not taking the boards seriously. For those who've been through class 10 recently: did keeping a sport help, or did it turn into one more thing to feel guilty about?

Is it the time, or is she tired after? Different fixes.

Mostly the time, I think. Practice runs 5 to 7, she's home by 7.30, then dinner, and she feels the evening is gone.

My older one dropped football in class 7 to focus on studies. The extra time mostly went into lying on his bed. He went back after two months 🙂 Not class 10, I know, but two evenings sounds like a fair middle.

My periyavan is in class 12 now, cricket. In class 10 he kept full practice till about December, then only weekends, then stopped in Feb. The last two months are when it really pinches, not now. Let her play till Diwali and then sit together and decide.

My son is 9, small compared to your daughter. But school says he cannot sit in one place. Since few months he goes for football in the evening and last week his teacher said he is better in class. So I think the sport helps the studies, not spoils. I am not expert, only what I see with my son.

Thank you, that's good to hear about your son. It's roughly what I mean too: the running around seems to make the sitting still easier. I hope it keeps going well for him.
