Class 1 daughter still writes b and d the wrong way round

dusk_sparrow_2001

Half-yearly English paper came back today and she lost marks for writing 'bog' instead of 'dog' and 'peb' instead of 'bed'. The teacher circled every b and d. She reads them correctly most of the time, it is only when she writes. Sometimes her 9 comes out backwards too. Is this still normal at this age? I don't want to fuss over it at home if it's just a phase, but I also can't simply ignore it.

My son also 5, he writes d like b many times. His teacher told me it is common in this age. At home we are making the letters with clay and he is liking it.

same with mine till class 2. the school made a big issue. now he is 9 and his letters are fine. other problems we have with school, but this one went away by itself.

That's reassuring to hear, thank you. Hope the other things settle for you too ❤

Ours flipped b and d till she was nearly 7. What helped was the 'bed' trick, make two fists with thumbs up, the left one is b, the right is d, and together they look like a bed. Silly, but she still does it under the desk in exams.
