Can I start a UKG enquiry at Mansura Cyber High School for my nephew before the family lands?

My sister and her family move back from Dubai in the third week of June, about the time schools here reopen. Her son is five and would go into UKG. My brother-in-law's office will be in Begumpet, so Mansura Cyber High School is first on her list, and since I'm already here I've been asked to start things. Will a school even talk to an aunt about a seat, or do they need a parent and the child in front of them? Is it better to go in person than call? And is there anything she should get from the school in Dubai before they leave?

They will usually talk to you, and you can get the basics: whether there's a UKG seat or a waiting list, and what they need. The actual admission will want a parent. June isn't as hopeless as it sounds either; families relocate every summer and seats in the small classes do open up close to reopening. Go in person, early in the day, and ask to be put on the waiting list in writing, with a number they'll call back on. For UKG most schools mainly want the birth certificate, a report or leaving letter from the last school, photos and the parents' IDs. Ask your sister to get that leaving letter on the Dubai school's letterhead before she flies. It's much harder to chase once she's here.

Where will they be living? If it's near Begumpet, fine. But a lot of families moving back choose the school by the office and then find a flat much further out because of rents. With a five year old, the van ride ends up mattering more than the office.

They're looking at flats in Begumpet and Ameerpet, so it should be close. Good point though. I'll make sure nobody signs a lease further out before the school is sorted.

go in person. school phone lines in june are useless, everyone is calling about books and vans 🤷

If the school she prefers can't confirm, I would take a seat at a second school near the flat rather than keep him at home and wait. It's UKG. A child who has just moved countries is better off in some classroom with other children from the first week. The downside is a second set of fees and uniforms if a seat opens later, so decide in advance whether you'd really move him mid-year.

Agree on not waiting. But 'decide in advance whether you'd move him' needs a date attached. Until when? If nothing has opened by August, I would stop calling and let him settle.
