Are school admission offices open during the May holidays, or do I wait for June?

We may need to move our son to a different school for the new year. I'd like to visit two schools this month while work is lighter, but the phones ring out at both. Do admission offices usually work through the holidays, maybe mornings only, or is it better to wait until the week before reopening?

went round in may last year for her playschool. 2 out of 5 were open, mornings only, and one had just a security guard who wrote down my number. nobody called back. walk in around 10, they don't pick up phones in the holidays
