Almost one and refuses the spoon from anyone. Do we just let him get on with it?

Our son is close to one and has stopped accepting the spoon from anyone. He grabs it, or shuts his mouth and turns his head. Pieces on the tray he eats happily, but half of it ends up on the floor or in his hair, and by the end I can't tell how much went in. Weight was fine at the last check. Did you just let them feed themselves?

We're months away from this, but I've been reading. Most of the advice says 'let the baby lead', which sounds fine until you're the one cleaning the floor three times a day. What does a normal meal look like for you right now? Time, what's on the tray, how long you let it go on?

Breakfast around 8. Soft idli pieces, banana, sometimes egg. Lunch is rice and dal mashed a bit, he picks at it. We stop around 20 min, when the throwing starts. Dinner is mostly same as lunch.

From a long way back: ours did this too. We put an old bedsheet under the high chair and gave up on the floor. The weight check is the thing to go by. If that's fine, what's on the floor is a laundry problem, not a food problem.

Twenty-odd years ago we used a two-spoon arrangement. She held one and waved it about, and while she was busy with it, the other one went in. It didn't work every day, but often enough that we kept it up until she lost interest in holding the spoon.

      Replying to @umber_balcony_700

Will try the two-spoon thing at breakfast. He'll probably want both, but worth a go.

Reading this with a 3 month old and a small feeling of dread 🙂 Does he still take his milk well? I'd assumed that covers a lot at this age, but I really don't know.
