A month of my mother's hot breakfasts, and now cereal is 'not breakfast'

hazel_gecko_2892

Son spent four weeks at my parents' in May. Fresh parathas or poha every morning. Back home, my calls start at 7 and school reopens soon. He refuses cereal and bread-jam. What quick hot breakfasts work for a 10 year old, ideally ones he can partly make himself?

my daughter came back from her grandmother's expecting the same. what stuck was poha, it's quick. the rest faded in a couple of weeks. i didn't fight it

Same age here. He makes his own egg bhurji on school mornings now, with me in the kitchen doing other things. Took a few burnt pans. Ten is old enough for the stove with an adult nearby, in my view.

My son was like this after every summer at his grandparents'. It wasn't really about the food. It was being made something every morning by someone who had the time. We kept one proper breakfast for Saturdays and let weekdays be simple. He still asks for Saturday dosas at 20 ❤️

Saturday as the proper breakfast day is a good idea. Told him today. He has already placed an order for aloo parathas.

Define "hot". Toast and an egg is hot. Is he refusing anything quick, or anything that isn't your mother's?

Fair question. Toast and egg is acceptable. Cereal and bread-jam are 'not breakfast'. So quick is fine, cold isn't.
