2 year old eats palak dal at daycare and refuses it at home

lagoon_compass_330

Daycare sends a daily report. Every day: palak dal, rice, carrot, ate everything. At home I make the same dal, same rice. He pushes the plate away and asks for curd rice. And please, not 'he'll eat when he's hungry'. I want observations from people who have actually watched this happen. What's different at daycare that I'm missing?

both of mine did this. i think its the other kids. at daycare everyone is eating the same thing at the same time, at home its just him and two adults staring at his plate

Have you asked the daycare how they serve it? Ours used small portions on a plate with sections and let them eat with their hands. Once we copied that at home my daughter ate more.

Mine eats for literally anyone who isn't me 😂 Daycare, neighbours, the person who lives with us. Me, no.

our younger one did the same at 2. we stopped asking the daycare what he ate because it made home meals feel like a test he was failing. he's 7 now and eats palak dal without comment, if that helps at all. no idea which thing fixed it.

Same age here and same story. One thing worth checking is timing. Daycare lunch for us is at 12 sharp, when he's hungry and not yet tired. Our dinner used to be at 8.30, when he was done with the day. Moving dinner to 7 made more difference than any change to the food.
