10 year old sold his old toys to the younger kids in our block. One mother wants the money back

hazel_gecko_2892

Last week he set up a 'sale' on the stairs with his old cars and two board games. Five kids, all under seven, bought things with their own pocket money. Today one mother messaged me, very politely, asking for her son's 200 back because he 'didn't really understand'. Do I make my son refund everyone, only her, or nobody? He says a sale is a sale.

Give back to all of them. Small children don't know the value of money, and the mothers will remember this longer than the toys. My son ran a 'shop' like this at nine, in our Ongole house, and we made him return everything. He still talks about it, but laughing, not hurt.

I run a business, so part of me is a bit proud of him :) But a fair seller doesn't sell to customers who can't understand the deal. I'd have him return the under-sevens' money himself and keep his sale going for kids his own age.

my son did something like this with cricket cards at that age. what stayed with him wasn't giving the money back, it was knocking on each door himself to do it. he still brings it up sometimes, half embarrassed, half laughing.
