What do your kids drink at evening cricket practice in this heat?

Both boys have cricket at 5 on weekdays. They take a litre each and come home with empty bottles, red faces and a headache at least twice a week. The younger one has started skipping dinner afterwards. The other boys bring coloured energy drinks. I'm not buying those. Buttermilk goes sour in the bag. So what do you send? Something salted? Frozen bottles?

Our son's academy moved its summer batch to 6 for this reason, so it may be worth asking yours. We freeze one bottle half full the night before and top it up with water before he leaves. He also carries nimbu water with a pinch of salt and sugar in a second bottle. Buttermilk we gave up on, same as you.

We moved here from Bengaluru last month and nobody warned me about April. My son is two, so no cricket yet, but your post reminded me of my dad sending me to practice with a steel flask of jaljeera wrapped in a wet towel. Still the best drink I can remember.
