Trying to picture an ordinary week in class 11 science, not the orientation version

breezy_fern_1867

Our daughter's class 10 results are out, and she will stay in the same school for 11 and 12 with science, computer science as her fifth subject. Everyone we know has an opinion about how hard class 11 is. Very few can tell me what a normal Tuesday looks like. What time did your child leave and get home, how many hours of study on a school night, and how much of that was coaching? Did weekends survive? I'm trying to plan the household around it, including our younger one's evenings, not decide whether she can cope.

I can only tell my own time. I did a diploma after 10th, not inter, in Karimnagar. My friends who took MPC in inter left home at 7 am and came back at 8 pm, coaching was inside the college. That was twenty years back, but from what I hear in our colony it is the same now. A CBSE school with separate coaching may be lighter than that.

Our son is in IB, so different, but the shape of the week may help. School 8 to 3.30, home by 4.15, two to three hours of work most nights, more before deadlines. Saturdays went to one activity and catching up. By the second month we stopped planning family things on weeknights. What helped most was a fixed dinner time that didn't move for anyone's classes.

Our elder one also just finished class 10, state board, and starts inter in June. The college she picked runs 8.30 to 5 and they've already told us about Saturday tests, so I'm in the same planning mode 🙂 One thing my neighbour said: the first month is the worst, after that they find their own rhythm.

Same stage then. 8.30 to 5 plus Saturday tests is close to what I'd guessed, without coaching on top. Have you planned anything for your younger one's evenings, or are you waiting to see how June goes?

Looking back from college: the timetable mattered less than sleep. Our son's worst months in class 11 were when coaching ran till 9 and he studied till 1. When we cut one coaching evening a week, his marks went up, not down. Plan the household around a fixed bedtime and the rest fits around it.
