Toddler wakes at 2 am ready to play, and I have to be at the lab by 8

Third week of this. He wakes around 2, not crying, just chatty and wanting to get down and play. Takes an hour, sometimes more, to get him back to sleep. Caregiver has him in the day, nights are me. Naps haven't changed. Anyone had this phase at this age, and what made it stop?

Awake at 3 am with the same thing, so no wisdom from me. Two questions though. Is the room fully dark when he wakes? And do you take him out of the room? Ours stopped faster once we stopped carrying him to the living room.

We had about a month of this when our son was around the same age. His daycare had let the afternoon nap stretch without mentioning it, and once we asked them to wake him earlier, the night waking faded over a week or so. The other thing we did was make nights very boring: no lights, no talking, just lying next to the cot until he gave up. Does your caregiver note down when he sleeps and wakes in the day?

Roughly, yes. Afternoon nap is 2 to 4, sometimes later. Will ask her to wake him at 3.30 and see. The boring part is hard, he thinks my face is the entertainment.

the boring room worked for us too, eventually. my son is 20 now and i still remember sitting on the floor beside his cot in the dark, counting fan rotations. it stopped as suddenly as it started

Counting fan rotations is exactly where I am. Good to hear it just ended one day.

Up with ours right now, so this is from the trenches 🙂 Moving the nap earlier helped us for about a week. Then the teeth started. Let us know if the 3.30 wake works
