Toddler screams every time we wipe her face after food

She eats happily, and messily, dal up to the eyebrows. The second a cloth comes near her face she arches back and wails as if I'm hurting her. Daycare says she does the same there. Tried a wet wipe, a soft cotton cloth, letting her hold it, wiping my own face first. Nothing. Is it ok to just leave her messy till bath time? How do you clean a toddler's face without a fight?

With ours it's the cloth coming at him from the front that he hates, not the cleaning. Handing him the cloth and holding up a small mirror made it bearable, though he only wipes the bits he can see. The rest waits for the bath, and that's been fine.

My 13 year old was just like this at that age. What helped her was being allowed to do it herself first, badly, and then one quick swipe from me. Now she spends forty minutes in front of the mirror every morning, so it passes

Ha, the forty-minute mirror stage. With our son a wet hand worked better than any cloth. He'd let me wash his face with my palm, like at the tap, but the cloth was the enemy. It still took a few weeks before the crying stopped.
