The snack everyone wants is the one nobody helped prepare

We have a shared snack preparation routine, but the children suddenly disappear until the food is on the table. I'd like to involve them in a small age-appropriate step, not turn eating into compulsory labour. What task has actually worked?

Let each child choose one modest preparation step, like washing fruit or setting plates.

A small repeatable step is better than asking for help in a frustrated voice.

Keep the request predictable so it's not sprung on them mid-game.
