The evening handover from grandparents is all excitement

Grandparents cover part of the evening until we finish work. By then our preschooler has a dozen things to report and absolutely no interest in dinner or putting things away. I don't want the adults to hand over a long behaviour report. Is there a calmer way to make that transition?

We spend a few minutes listening before giving instructions. It's not a magic routine, but the first conversation is less of a battle.
