Teen stays up late texting even after lights out

We already have a charging spot outside the bedroom, but the rule is becoming a nightly argument. I am looking for approaches that do not depend on checking the phone secretly. How did you reset sleep boundaries at this age? I would especially value recent experiences from the last one or two academic years.

Privacy and safety can coexist. We do not read chats routinely, but our teen knows what situations would make us step in. The rule worked better once adults followed the spirit of it too. We are in Warangal, so local logistics may be a little different.

We wrote the phone rules together and applied a couple of them to adults too, especially no phones at dinner. That reduced the 'why only me?' argument. Our child reacted better once we explained the change in advance instead of announcing it on the day. We also explained what would earn more freedom rather than only listing restrictions. Your child's response may be different, but this was our experience.

Could you share what you would do differently if you were starting again? Small check-ins have worked better for us than big lectures. We are in Bengaluru, so local logistics may be a little different.

Thank you. I like that this does not require changing everything at once. The rule worked better once adults followed the spirit of it too. I would still test it for a short period before making a long commitment.

This is close to what my spouse is suggesting too. I may have been overcomplicating it. Small check-ins have worked better for us than big lectures. In our house, the practical routine mattered more than the ideal plan.

My spouse had a different view initially, so we tried it for a few weeks before deciding. We try to keep one open channel without demanding every detail. I would still test it for a short period before making a long commitment.
