Taught my granddaughter a little Urdu. Now she writes her English letters from right to left

Granddaughter is 4, with us most afternoons. For fun I have been showing her the Urdu alphabet, a few letters a day. She enjoys it very much. Yesterday her parents showed me her school notebook. Her name in English, written starting from the right side, some letters reversed. Her mother is laughing, her father less so. Should I stop the Urdu for now? Or is this normal at 4 and it will settle?

Is the reversing only on days she has done Urdu with you, or all the time? It would help to know whether the two are connected before stopping something she enjoys.

I wrote this off as a phase with mine and it was. She wrote half her letters backwards till about 6, and nobody was teaching her a second script. She's in her twenties now and writes perfectly normal emails 😄 I wouldn't stop. Writing direction is one more thing she'll sort out, and the Urdu is something she has only with you.

Good to read this. We're planning Telugu and English for our son, so filing this away for later.
