Son wants to spend his college summer on site with my installation crew, not doing an internship
Our son has finished his second year of engineering and has about seven weeks off from late April. His classmates are chasing internships, mostly online, mostly unpaid. He has told us he would rather work with my installation teams for the summer. Carpentry, false ceilings, wiring coordination, the lot. I'm pleased and a bit wary. It's hard, hot work in May, the crews are used to me as the boss and him as 'sir's son', and I don't know whether this will count for anything when he applies for jobs in two years. My partner thinks a real internship would look better on paper. He says he learns more from seeing things built. If your child did something practical like this instead of the usual internship, did it help later, or did they regret not having the line on the CV? And how did you handle working with your own child without either of you losing patience?
