Setting up a toddler playdate with daycare parents we've never spoken to

quiet_veranda_1652

Every Saturday and Sunday it's the same name, all day. Her friend from daycare. They apparently sit together at snack time and hold hands in the line. My partner does most pickups and I'm the one with the unpredictable hours, so neither of us has more than nodded at the other girl's parents. I'd like to suggest meeting at a park in Chembur one weekend, but asking a stranger for a playdate feels oddly like asking someone out. Did you go through the daycare, or just walk up to them?

this was years ago for me, my son is 21 now. i asked the other mother at the playschool gate, very awkwardly. she said yes immediately and admitted she'd been planning to ask me. we stayed friends long after the boys drifted apart

Just ask at pickup. If they say no or they're busy, that's the end of it. Nobody is offended by being asked.

Twins here, so they have each other, but one of mine still has a favourite friend from playschool. We meet that family at the park on Sunday mornings. My wife asked the other mother through the class teacher the first time, after that it was easy.
